## Highlights
- Daniel 12:8–9 reads, “I heard, but I did not understand. So I asked, ‘My Lord, what will the outcome of all this be?’ He replied, ‘Go your way, Daniel, because the words are closed up and sealed until the time of the end.’” ([Location 529](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B079W4LPGQ&location=529))
- What history shows is that there was another empire out there that exemplified both the “legs of iron” and the “terrifying beast.” That empire is the Islamic caliphate, and it crushed and destroyed the people, religions, and cultures of all the nations that it conquered. - What kingdom was the “one who has not yet come”? The kingdom that conquered the Roman Empire was the Islamic caliphate. So the Islamic caliphate was also the only empire that exemplified the “iron legs” and the “terrifying beast.” This scripture also said that the seventh kingdom would remain awhile, and after it was gone, an eighth kingdom would arrive, and it would come out of the seventh. - The Islamic caliphate reemerged only recently, and it was possible that the new Islamic caliphate was the beginning of what would become the eighth beast empire. ([Location 556](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B079W4LPGQ&location=556))
- It was clear to Ford that the Islamic Caliphate was the “legs of iron” from Daniel 2, as well as the “terrifying beast” from Daniel 7. It also became clear to Ford that the Greek Empire was the “belly and thighs of bronze” in Daniel 2 and the “beast that resembled a leopard” in Daniel 7. Additionally, he realized that the “chest and arms of silver” in Daniel 2 and the “beast that resembled a bear” in Daniel 7 pointed to the Medo-Persian Empire. Lastly, Ford identified the “head of gold” in Daniel 7 and the “beast that resembled a lion” in Daniel 7 as the Babylonian Empire. - At the height of the Greek Empire, the capital was located in Constantinople, which is modern-day Istanbul, Turkey. More and more commentators agreed that the goat represented Turkey, and Ford tended to agree with them. ([Location 858](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B079W4LPGQ&location=858))
- “The Bible is infallible, and because the United States is clearly not found in Bible prophecy, it is very likely that it means that something would soon destabilize the United States to the point that it would lose its status as the lone world power!” ([Location 907](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B079W4LPGQ&location=907))
- Ezekiel 36 is a prophecy about the return of the Jews to Israel. The Jewish people had been exiled from Israel for almost 1900 years. Only in the last century have they started to go back to Israel in large numbers. The largest migration of Jews back to Israel started after the United Nations reestablished the country of Israel in 1947. - In Ezekiel chapter 37, there is more prophecy about the revival of the Jewish people in Israel. Ford found it astounding that these two chapters in Ezekiel had been fulfilled in the last century. ([Location 1121](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B079W4LPGQ&location=1121))
- The first event on the timeline to the far left was the “reestablishment of Israel as a nation.” This event was chronicled in Ezekiel 36 and 37, and it was important because all end-times events were dependent on it. ([Location 2582](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B079W4LPGQ&location=2582))
- The second event was the opening of the first seal, which represented the rider on a white horse bent on conquest. ([Location 2584](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B079W4LPGQ&location=2584))
- The next event on the timeline was the opening of the second seal, which was represented by a rider on a red horse, who would take peace from the world. ([Location 2593](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B079W4LPGQ&location=2593))
- the differences between Sunnis and Shiites. It all came down to their belief regarding who was supposed to be the leader of the Islamic world. This leader would be in control of the Islamic caliphate. This leader would have the title caliph and would be the political, military, and religious leader of the entire Muslim world. The disagreement regarding who would be this leader began right after Muhammad died in the seventh century. The Sunnis believed that the next leader should be the one voted on based on a consensus of the Islamic communities. The Shiites believed that only a person from Muhammad’s bloodline can be the leader. ([Location 2609](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B079W4LPGQ&location=2609))
- This Mahdi was prophesied to be the Islamic messiah who would come to lead the Muslim world. In other words, when the Mahdi returned, he would become the caliph of the revived Islamic caliphate. ([Location 2618](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B079W4LPGQ&location=2618))
- So if the revived Islamic caliphate was the Antichrist Empire from which the Antichrist would rule, and the Mahdi was prophesized to come and rule the Islamic caliphate, there was a clear connection that the Mahdi was the Antichrist.
