## Highlights
- We all make hundreds of minor choices every day, but some can change the course of a life. Some choices define who we are or set into motion events too unimaginable to foresee and too overwhelming to understand. - So what makes a Plain community then? Well, in short, Plain means Anabaptist — a branch of Protestant Christianity that favors strong community, simple living, and a focus on God above all else. We look to the Bible and to God for our moorings. ([Location 131](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B00P5W5FXA&location=131))
- And I don’t want to live another day if I have to live as I have in the past. Just let me die,” I prayed, “or let me in.” ([Location 1443](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B00P5W5FXA&location=1443))
- All I needed to know was that I would never again face an uncertain future alone. God was now at my side. ([Location 1507](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B00P5W5FXA&location=1507))
- He had given me a clean slate after a lifetime of mistakes, and I made a vow to Him, right then and there, to do whatever He asked of me. ([Location 1508](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B00P5W5FXA&location=1508))
- That short conversation was a pivotal moment in my Christian life, because it’s when I first realized that people live their faith, and their interpretation of God’s Word, in many different ways. ([Location 1552](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B00P5W5FXA&location=1552))
- Since then, I’ve learned that the decisions we make as Christians reflect how God speaks to each one of us in our heart. It’s not our place to tell other people what to do or to judge. It is only our place to listen. ([Location 1554](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B00P5W5FXA&location=1554))
- Our responsibility is to find out which path God is calling us to walk — and to walk it with humility. ([Location 1556](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B00P5W5FXA&location=1556))
- I had to be all in; I needed God next to me at all times to keep me from sliding back into despair. ([Location 1559](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B00P5W5FXA&location=1559))
- It took me a long time to find out who I really was inside, and after God gave me my first peek, I did everything I could to grow into the person He wanted me to become. ([Location 1566](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B00P5W5FXA&location=1566))
- For me, without judgment toward others, wearing a head covering illustrated my commitment to God. It also served as a helpful reminder: each time I placed a covering on my head, I was reminded about my vow to Christ, my responsibility for living His Plan. - It didn’t make sense to her that the previous guidelines, which had been presented as God’s Law, could be so swiftly thrown out for something new. ([Location 2180](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B00P5W5FXA&location=2180))
