## Highlights
- We have faith that the practices of silence, praying with scripture, or reciting the prayers passed on to us will bear fruit over time. If we continue to fight through our fears and anxieties in order to sit in silence, we trust that God can meet us, even if it leads to results we aren't expecting or doesn't even result in quantifiable progress. If we continue to cultivate habits of stillness and quiet throughout the day, we have faith that God can meet us and will speak even at moments when we aren't expecting to hear anything. If we continue to wait on God, we have faith that periods of silence don't indicate God has abandoned us. ([Location 34](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B00TABE8R6&location=34))
- The Jesus Prayer is perfect for filling in time with its simplicity: "Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner." ([Location 52](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B00TABE8R6&location=52))
- I started to realize that the things I'd been obsessively worrying over were legitimate writing and prayer topics. Soon I began jotting down notes in a pocket notebook or tapping ideas on my phone's note app. At the same time I began opening up about my anxieties and fears to God in prayer. After writing a note, I often prayed about that particular thing, offering my problems to God and then letting my mind wander wherever. Sometimes I reached clarity on a particular issue, and the more I inched toward clarity, the more I had to write about.
