This shame is born out of places in our lives that don’t measure up to Scripture because we don’t know what God’s Word says—or because we know what God’s Word says, but we don’t want to admit we don’t measure up. We may know part of God’s Word, but we don’t spend a lot of time in Scripture. As a result, its effects begin to wane. This is an essential first step in understanding how important God’s Word is in our lives. It teaches us that fulfillment comes from diligently seeking to know the character and qualities of God that make him worthy of our worship. To be effective in spending time in God’s Word, we need to protect our time in it and not allow life’s distractions to hinder us.
