Man is the focus, and Man is exalted. Man is considered to be capable of perfection through education and reliance on reason. Faith is condemned. Reason is worshiped. ([Location 135](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B0758HM5TJ&location=135)) - I am convinced that the battle for humankind’s future must be waged and won in the public school classroom by teachers who correctly perceive their role as the proselytizers of a new faith: a religion of humanity that recognizes the spark of what theologians call divinity in every human being. There teachers must embody the same selfless dedication of the most rabid fundamentalist preacher, for they will be ministers of another sort, utilizing a classroom instead of a pulpit to convey humanist values in whatever subject they teach, regardless of the educational level — preschool, daycare, or large state university. The classroom must and will become an arena of conflict between the old and the new — the rotting corpse of Christianity, together with all its adjacent evils and misery, and the new faith of humanism, resplendent in its promise of a world in which the never-realized Christian ideal of “love thy neighbor” will finally be achieved. Whether we look to the first Charter of Virginia . . . or to the Charter of Massachusetts Bay . . . or to the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut . . . the same objective is present: a Christian land governed by Christian principles. . . I believe the entire Bill of Rights came into being because of the knowledge our forefathers had of the Bible and their express belief in it . . . I like to believe we are living today in the spirit of the Christian religion. I like also to believe that as long as we do so no great harm can come to our country. These three go hand-in-hand. Whenever Humanism is your religion, your god will be money and your life-style will be given over to the pursuit of pleasure. He offered to his devotees the things that human instincts crave. He was a god of the flesh. His priests encouraged the people to follow their natural inclinations. It was worship in indulgence, expressed in lust, and adored in selfishness. It had no inhibitions at all. It said “Look after number one, be yourself, be natural.” Self-expression and natural instincts was its program. A good time for everyone according to the flesh was its goal. No wonder it grew in popularity. He asserted that it was a classic example of highly subjective legal decision making.40 It was a totally arbitrary decision forced upon the majority by an elite without any constitutional basis and in complete contradiction of God’s Word. (The same, of course could be said of the Court’s equally arbitrary ruling in the same-sex marriage case 43 years later in 2016.) Instead, he would call himself “a Bible believing Christian.” ([Location 1122](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B0758HM5TJ&location=1122)) - “Godlessness: The First Step Toward the Gulag.” ([Location 1275](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B0758HM5TJ&location=1275)) - More than half a century ago, while I was still a child, I recall hearing a number of older people offer the following explanation for the great disasters that had befallen Russia: Men have forgotten God; that’s why all this has happened. The truth of the words of Paul of Tarsus is evident in our country today. For more than a generation now our society has been sowing seeds which are today bringing forth their fruit. He sums up his feeling with these words: “When I look at the changes that have occurred in the land I love — and the Church I love even more — just in my lifetime, I have to pinch myself to see if it’s a dream gone bad. They think new elections, new laws, new treaties and new regulations will fix everything! They are clueless that the secular path always leads to folly . . . We have passed the tipping point. Let’s hang on a little longer and be salt and light and try to delay the decay. There are still some faithful shepherds in some of our pulpits . . . Nothing is falling apart. Everything is falling in place. More distress is coming, and it will be heart-stopping and breathtaking. Judgment is upon us.
